I’m not that tall. The tallest woman in history measured nearly 8’2″, and the shortest woman to make it into history’s Top 25 Tallest Women was 6’8″. I went to high school with a girl who was 6’6″, and I knew two women in college who were 6’5″.
However, 6’3″, according to the 2017 US Census height distribution chart, is still taller than at least 99.9% of women of any age. When I talk about being tall, I’ve got a hefty dose of relativity to back me up.
There’s a lot more to me than my height, of course. I’m a wife, mother, runner, non-profit professional, volunteer, visual artist, wanderer, silly-willy, and one heck of a cook. Unless I’m in a situation in which I sense the need to be open about my height, it doesn’t occur to me to mention it. However, it’s always “there.”
When I thought about doing a blog, I knew I would have to bring my height into it at least a little bit. At this point, living with my exceptional height is the one thing that I honestly can point to and say, “Nailed it!”
The unique situations and challenges that tall people like me face for themselves and their families (especially with their tall children) will provide the unique content of this blog–the stuff that a squinchillion other people aren’t also saying in their blogs. Other musings will find their way in as well. Thanks for reading.
